#29 Read 12 Books Translated Into English

International reading became the overarching theme of the year

This particular goal took three days short of the entire year, stretching me the whole way. I never would have come across, let alone have read, many of these books without this commitment to listen in on conversations people-not-like-me are having. Thank you to the four people who helped fill out my booklist. I focused on books translated into English so that I would know I wasn't the original target audience. I set this goal because I felt like I already knew what people like me think and talk about; this was an intention to get outside of the default settings. Even so, you'll see two English language books got to share a spot on the list since they were written from so far outside of my usual worldview.

I am linking each one to Amazon in case you want to explore any of the titles, but all but one of these books were at my local library in some format. I encourage you to go that route (or a local bookstore) if you decide to read any of them. Enjoy!

1. The Murmur of Bees (Spanish)
2. The Bookseller of Kabul (Norwegian)
3. Things Fall Apart (English, African literature)
The Cross and the Lynching Tree (English, Black theology)
4. The Alchemist (Portuguese) Julie's recommendation
7. The Death of Ivan Ilych (Russian) Shawn's recommendation
10. The African Origin of Civilization (French) Tall's recommendation
11. Chariots of the Gods (German) Robbie's recommendation
12. Deep River (Japanese) Shawn's recommendation
