Dance with Me

Have you ever arrived at an event to discover that you are severely underdressed?

That's what happened to the young lady in my story.

Sure, she knew jeans were not nice enough for a banquet, but they were her nice jeans and they were the nicest garment she owned. When she arrived, though, she learned it was not just a banquet at all, but a ball. The older women were beautiful, their gowns gorgeous and vibrantly colorful, their hair, nails, and make-up all perfect. The young lady was keenly aware that her nice jeans were nothing more than rags. The beautiful women, however, hardly noticed her attire. With a smile in their eyes, they welcomed her to the ball.

It didn't matter that she couldn't dance, it was an honor just to sit off to the side and simply watch, soaking it all in. Sadly, the voice in her head wouldn't let her enjoy it......"What are YOU doing here? You shouldn't be here. Go home." Finally tired of wrestling with the doubts, she decided to leave.

"I'll come back later, when I'm older like the others," she thought.

As she turned towards the door, He stepped out from where He had been watching the whole story unfold. The host, the prince, no, the King.

"Dance with me," He said as he reached out his hand.

She couldn't speak, she couldn't breathe. All she could do was join Him on the dance floor.

She'll never know how her feet knew the steps, but she knew she'd never forget this dance for the rest of her life. Only, she learned, he wasn't inviting her to share one dance, he was inviting her to live her whole life as a dance with Him. When the depth of the invitation reached her soul, something magical happened. Her rags were changed. She looked down to see she was wearing an exquisite gown.
She later learned the secret of the women's smiling eyes, for they all had arrived at the ball in their rags.
Do you hear the music? The ball has not ended. So, come in your rags and dance in the reign. Dance in the reign of Glory.
