Quotables

"Jesus began His public ministry with a
simple invitation: "Come, follow Me."
His closing instructions to His disciples
can be summarized in one word, "Go!"
A quick survey of modern church
would lead you to believe His invitation was
"Come, and listen." and His closing mandate
would be summarized in one word "No!"
from The Barbarian Way
by Erwin Raphael McManus
Besides the religious application, this quote reminds me of different attitudes towards the two phases of motherhood. I am currently in the "Come, learn with me." phase with an eye towards the "Go." phase.
Now, back to the Christian faith.....
"...this is not a cattle call. He is not calling you
to the same life that everyone else will live.
He's not calling you to the same path that
every follower of Christ will walk....
Jesus' response to Peter was as
straight-forward as it could possibly get:
"If I want John to live and you to die,
what is that to you? Your part is to follow Me.
My part is to lead the way."
Christianity as a civilized religion
claims to have a group plan negotiated with God...."
from The Barbarian Way
This I love! It's not a "cattle call." There's not one right way to mother, or run a house, or do this thing called life. My life is not going to look just like yours. Some days I just need to get over that. It's about walking with the Almighty God, "receiving your instructions from God Himself." God calls some to the city...others the country, some to home...and some to career, on and on through endless scenarios. The author of this book would go so far as to point out that some "survive the night in the lion's den; others experience their darkest night and wake in eternity." There is no "group plan."
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do,
do it all for the glory of God."
1 Corinthians 10:31
