The most amazing and humbling aspect of the weekend was reflecting on God's faithfulness to Carl and Betty Matheny. From that one couple there are now at least 30 members of the family serving the Lord on three continents. When gathered together, it is more than a family reunion - it's a spiritual pep rally. This weekend there was a devo every night and a specially planned worship service this morning. Beyond the planned events, though, this is a family that can't help but proclaim God's work in their lives during all their interactions.

Matheny Family Christmas
I can't say enough good things about the Matheny family gathering here in Colorado. (That's a big deal since I didn't want to come in the first place.) First of all, the accommodations were fantastic. (See the view from our
room.) The 26 of us rented two four-bedroom lodges that each had a large gathering room. Our room was nicely located away from the common area so the kids' sleep was not disturbed at all. It was located in such a way, though, that I was trapped in the room when the kids were sleeping. If only I'd brought the baby monitor. The retreat center provided a buffet-style meal for both breakfast and dinner. It was great to have someone else do all the preparing, cooking, and cleaning so all our energy was dedicated to sledding, volleyball, frisbee golf (in the snow!), games, and visiting.

I am so glad that Colorado has been refreshing, but I talked to so many people yesterday at the NYEEP that want you to come home! Look forward to seeing you soon!
I have to think that Carl is smiling! What a blessing.
So glad you had a great Christmas! Sounds like it was uplifting and relaxing...get home safe.
