Saturday morning we left Houston and headed to my hometown. Amazingly, we arrived in time to catch the end of my sister's bridal shower. (That's her in the tissue paper dress they made at the shower. Lovin' the puff sleeves!) Preparing for her wedding is how I earn my keep around here 'cause she's in law school and is too busy for the fun stuff. Monday I wrote the poem for the guest favors. Tuesday I began assembling the reception centerpieces and reworked the guest accommodations plans. It's fun for me. Julie's main concern is that everyone have fun - that leaves me quite a bit of freedom in the details. When the opportunity arises, they are making environmentally and socially conscious decisions. I'd say it's a "green within reason" wedding. The best way to be green is not to choose green products, but simply to consume less. I guess that means eloping in this case, so that's out. The organic caterer would have been twice as expensive, so that's out, too.
They are doing these little things, though, to waste less:
-To reduce paper: RSVP online; no programs
-Their wedding rings are from greenkarat.com; the jewelry she's wearing in the ceremony is borrowed from family members
-Favors and centerpieces are mainly reused items, consumable items, or purchased off greenfeet.com
-They registered at greenfeet.com.
-She bought her dress on ebay.
-The bridesmaids can wear any dress they have that is a certain color.
-Their ceremony site is an environmentally protected area at the local park~ this means there cannot be (and will be no need for) decorations.
As I plan all the other details it's fun and challenging to strive to stay within their socially and environmentally aware mindset. The fun has just begun.

This is so cool! Have fun planning - remember all that matters in the long run is that they look back on the day with wonderful memories. You are a great sister!
You are a great sister! I think it is great that she is letting you do so much for her. I would love that part too! We still miss you guys!
I love that you embrace "green within reason". There is so much "green" that sucks the joy out of fun stuff-but we can all do green withing reason. In fact, if everyone did-the world would be a much better place.
You continually inspire me to do better. (Still meditating on the "retail" comment BTW.)
withing-it is the word of the day.
